Tandem Fly Rigs – Why Two is Better than One

Kirk Deeter, co-author of shares a few pearls of wisdom on the benefits of fishing tandem fly rigs in this short video clip. Why Tandem Fly Rigs Work Fishing tandem fly rigs in nothing new, but the reason it is so effective might surprise you as Deeter explains, “The best trick of all is to use an attractor fly–on the surface or on a nymph rig. I see it over and over when I put on a mask and dive with trout. The fish turns on the gaudy fly, and then eats the more subtle pattern.” For hundreds more handy [...]

[Review] The Fly Fisherman’s Guide To The Great Smoky Mountains National Park

I received a courtesy copy of The Fly Fisherman’s Guide to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park by H. Lea Lawrence and was asked to review the book. I was little hesitant to do so. After all I am an engineer by trade, not an english major, and asking a fly fishing junkie to review a book about fly fishing in one of our nation’s crown jewels is like feeding steak to a lion and asking him if it was any good. Good Steak, Good Book My fears melted away as I dug into The Fly Fisherman’s Guide to the [...]

In any event here goes….. Ok, so I’m too tired to write so I figured I’d let this video clip of the life cycle of the midge filmed underwater do the talking; pretty neat stuff, even at three in the morning. I never knew how prominent those gas bubbles were. Midge Mania and Mass Confusion I’ll admit, this whole midge thing [...]
