Snowshoe Rabbit Foot Uses
Hands down Snowshoe Rabbit foot hair has to be the best floating natural fly tying material available. Hair from the bottom of the hare's foot is bouyant, kink resistant and does not absorb water. For this reason, Snowshoe Rabbit makes for mean, unsinkable emerger and dry fly patterns. (I guess it also helps keep the hare's foot warm:)
Case in point, I took the family down to the Great Smoky Mountains last week for vacation and fished some beautiful mountains streams. Only problem was most of the streams were raging after several days of rain. This didn't stop the Blue Winged Olives from coming off, though. A multi-fly rig worked best for me with a Snowshoe BWO emerger with a WD40 dropper fished tight to the banks and in the few seams I could find. Since the Snowshoe emerger floats so well it did double duty by also serving as a strike indicator.
Happy tying!
In addition to fly tying materials, we carry a full line of fly tying vises and tools, fly rods, fly reels, waders, fly fishing vests and packs and more in our eBay Fly Shop.
