Texas Kayak Fishing Map

by Fly Fishing Reporter on June 2, 2010

I came across this awesome map of places to fish from a kayak (including fly fishing) in Texas, Oklahoma and Florida being put together by the guys at TexasKayakFisherman.com and it really got me thinking.

Secret Fishing Locations Revealed

What's really impressive about the Texas, Oklahoma, Florida Kayak fishing map is that in a little over a month more than 100 "secret" fishing locations have been added and the map has been viewed more than 23,000 times! Kudos to the guys at TexasKayakFisherman.com for helping break down the barrier about sharing fishing location information.

FFR Open Source Fishing Maps

I started Fly Fishing Reporter (FFR) less than a year ago with the intent to map America's Best Trout Streams and make that information freely available to the public to make it easier for folks to find a decent place to fish. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of trying to keep too tight of control of the mapping process (I'm a bit of a control freak) and I have not got as far as I would have like.

With the upcoming launch of the FFR iPhone App, which draws data from our America's Best Trout Streams Maps, that's about to change. In the coming month, I will be opening up all of our state-specific fly fishing guide maps so that anyone can contribute to them using a new service I found that is much easier and more stable to use than Google Maps.

Stay tuned....
